The community-based services in CSI module for SABD are to expose students to the real community living in the real-life situation. We are to cooperate as a group for structural, culture, and environmental improving activities in the communities of various of different socio-economic status and social groups. The series of community services are offered as student strengthening project, we are given the flexibility to pick and to execute the task in the most ideal way, within the budget and time limitation given. As architecture student, we were then required to propose and execute design answers to handle the analyzed issues.
Architecture Design Studio
Project 1 : Site Analysis
Located in the city of Muar, Johor, an in-depth and comprehensive analysis and presentation on the intangible and intangible aspects of the site were required, hence the possibilities of aligning the site analysis findings in developing the main programme: Art, Cultural & Innovative Centre. The Pre-Design Studies consists of four parts: Site Documentation, Site Analysis (macro and micro), Precedent Studies and Conclusion. In a group, we were asked to conduct and present the following pre-design studies:
1. Studies of the contextual conditions of your site
2. Studies on your selected user group and building types
3. Studies on the cultural and meaning place.
4. Studies on the current restrictions and proposed development on site and how it will affect the project and design.
This study enabled myself and my group to carry out an in-depth understanding of the people, place and time in Muar, Johor.
Project 1 : Cultural and Innovation Centre for Muar
This project calls for a design of a Cultural and Innovative Centre for the city of Muar, Johor in which the centre transforms into a cultural landmark and public activity centre for the city. With Muar’s recent recognition as the Furniture Capital of Malaysia 2018 and the Cleanest Tourist City in Asean Region, the local government believes the city of Muar has great potential with more culture to offer and promote. Thus, the project will establish a new place and node to showcase the culture, tradition, and creative work of the people of Muar.
The project brief given requires the proposed building to be no larger than 2000m^2 and not lesser than 1800m^2 with a minimum of 3 levels and maximum 5 levels. A basement car park of at least 20 car park lots with 2 handicap car parking and 2 service parking is to be provided which will not be included in the floor area requirement. Hence, my proposal for a spice & herb Cultural and Innovation Center which celebrates and promotes the traditional art and performance of Lion Dance in Muar to the community and tourists of Muar.a
